1980年代后期，乐队逐渐融入民谣、哥特摇滚与氛围元素，代表作《Children of God》《White Light from the Mouth of Infinity》展现了更具旋律性与精神性的面向。

复出后的专辑《My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky》《The Seer》《To Be Kind》《The Glowing Man》以长篇史诗结构和即兴驱动的现场能量广受赞誉，进一步巩固了乐队作为前卫摇滚/实验音乐重要实践者的地位。
